There’s a new face at our Torrance plastic surgery office: that of skilled plastic surgeon Whitney Burrell, MD. A cancer surgeon’s daughter who hails from Atlanta, Dr. Burrell has trained at some of America’s most prestigious institutions, including Columbia, Princeton and Weill Cornell Medical College, on her journey to become a plastic surgeon.
Her undergraduate degree was earned at Princeton, as well as a general studies certificate from Columbia. Her medical school training was completed at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York. Dr. Burrell then enrolled in a 3-year plastic surgery residency at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. During residency, she was given the Resident of Distinction award and named Administrative Chief Resident.
Dr. Burrell’s training also includes a year-long microsurgery fellowship at the prestigious Keck Medical Center at USC, which serves her well as a breast reconstruction specialist here in the South Bay. She also performs body contouring procedures, such as liposuction and tummy tucks as one of five Torrance plastic surgeons.
Dr. Burrell’s wide-ranging research interests led to co-authoring papers presented to various medical groups. Among them are topics such as diabetic wound healing, bariatric surgery, gene therapy and body contouring. It is Dr. Burrell’s belief that the best results are obtained by working in partnership with patients, whether performing reconstructive or cosmetic procedures. She is committed to understanding each patient’s goals to craft a surgical plan to achieve them.
