Want more youthful skin? Say “yes” to Micro-Needling (also known as CIT or Collagen Induction Therapy), an amazing skin treatment that improves fine lines; fades scars (including stretch marks); reduces melasma and other pigmentation, and tightens sagging skin.
How Does Micro-Needling Work?
As collagen production declines with aging, the skin begins to decline in tightness, brightness, and luminosity. Micro-needling increases natural collagen by creating very tiny “wounds” in the skin with 12 micro-needles housed in the sterile tip of a MicroPen™. As these wounds heal, collagen production increases, resulting in visible improvement in aging skin and other skin concerns, such as melasma, stretch marks and scars.
The Micro-Needling Treatment
After anesthesia cream has been applied, the MicroPen™ is pressed over the skin and the 12 tiny needles penetrate the surface. Depth of penetration will vary depending on each patient’s needs, and most treatments require 45-90 minutes. Micro-needling patients at our Torrance practice tell us it feels a bit like sandpaper being passed over the skin–not a painful experience but an unusual one.
Recovery from Micro-Needling
Recovery is fairly rapid, especially when compared to chemical peels or laser treatments. Bright redness is common immediately after treatment, but this fades within a few days. Some patients experience skin dryness and/or swelling, depending on the depth of needle penetration. Patients often see skin improvement as quickly as two weeks, with improvement extending up to 6 months following treatment. Repeated treatments can be performed every four to six weeks to increase results. As with many other facial rejuvenation treatments, micro-needling can also be paired with BOTOX® Cosmetic.
