Our recent patient, a 70-year old female, found herself in need of our services after being diagnosed with cancer in the upper outer quadrant of her right breast. Her decision to undergo breast reconstruction in Torrance was influenced not just by the cancer diagnosis but also by her desire to restore her body to a state that felt more natural and familiar. She decided to have a right nipple sparing mastectomy and sentinel node mapping, performed by our renowned surgeon, Dr. Melanie Friedlander.

The first stage of our patient's procedure involved the use of a prepectoral expander following the mastectomy to prepare for the implantation. This reconstruction method has been noted for its benefits in preserving the chest muscle, reducing pain, and speeding up the recovery process. Subsequently, the second stage involved the replacement of the expander with an implant to form a new breast mound. For additional symmetry, the surgical team performed fat transfer to the right breast.
