Nipple Reconstruction Before & After Case 61

This is a 54 year old female who had left breast cancer. She came to our office to discuss reconstructive options. After extensive discussion of the reconstructive options with her surgeon, she decided that implant reconstruction would be the best choice for her.

 

A left mastectomy was performed by her general surgeon to remove the cancer from her left breast. At the same time, her left breast was reconstructed using an expander and a dermal allograft (Alloderm ®). The expander was filled up most of the way during her surgery.

 

During her recovery, her left breast expander was filled two times. She then returned to surgery for removal of her left breast expander and replacement with an Allergan Natrelle smooth round silicone implant with a volume of 550ml. Additionally, a similar implant with a volume of 371ml was placed in her right breast and a breast lift was performed. This gave her the additional fullness that she wanted in her right breast and it made her breasts look more similar. This took her from a B cup to a full C cup.

 

Six weeks later, she returned to surgery for reconstruction of her left nipple and areola. Her right breast lift was also modified slightly at that time. She was delighted with her results. She was amazed that she could look so good in clothes after having a mastectomy for breast cancer.
